CU Carbondale Lecture Series: Chinese Immigrants in Mexico

April 5, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

CU Carbondale Lecture Series: Chinese Immigrants in Mexico
Thursday, Apr. 5 at 6p.m. at the Carbondale Branch Library
Join Carbondale Arts, The Carbondale Library and University of Colorado Boulder’s assistant professor of Latin American History, Fredy Gonzalez for a lecture on Thursday, Apr. 5 at 6p.m. at the Carbondale Branch Library. Gonzales will speak about the history of the Chinese community in Mexico from the turn of the twentieth century until the Cold War. Drawing upon Chinese-language sources, he presents previously-uncovered histories of the Chinese community and illustrates how the images that the Chinese presented of themselves helped counter the nasty and destructive stereotypes about them. At the same time, he argues for understanding Mexico as a country of immigrants as well as emigrants. For more information visit www.carbondalearts.com or www.gcpld.org.
